Carbon Tetrachloride, with the chemical formula CCl4, is known by names viz. Benziform, Carbon chloride, Carbon tet, Freon 10, Halon 104, Methane tetrachloride, Perchloromethane, Tetraform and Tetrasol.

Carbon tetrachloride is a volatile, colourless, clear, heavy liquid with a characteristic sweet, non-irritant odour. It was formerly widely used in fire extinguishers, as a precursor to refrigerants, and as a cleaning agent.
The use of carbon tetrachloride are :
Fluorocarbon Refrigerants and Propellants
Grain fumigants and flour bleaching
Solvent in chlorinated rubber manufacturing and petroleum refining industry
Grease removing agent for machinery and tools
Dry-cleaning fluid
Fire extinguisher
Flotation fluid, synthesis of nylon-7
Pharmaceutical preparation
